In the first consultative meeting of experts, numerous programmes were suggested for inclusion in the action plan to be taken up for immediate implementation. It was felt that all the activities should focus on researches relating to classical Tamil and that the period from the 3rd century BC to the 6th century AD could be taken into account for this purpose. The programmes that would highlight the antiquity and uniqueness of classical Tamil were carefully vetted from the standpoint of translation into action and brought under the following ten major projects:
